"XML responses are gzipped before they are returned to the requestor automatically when the request is submitted using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer version 6.02 or greater. Other browsers, such as Netscape, may not correctly support gzipped data. To receive gzipped data, browsers must include in their HTTP header the User-Agent string: User-Agent : Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322), and set Accept-Encoding as follows: Accept-Encoding : gzip. This is not a new feature but a clarification of existing functionality."
