NAV vs Mcafee vs PC-Cillin vs Other

What is YOUR favorite antivirus solution? I have had NAV and PC-Cillin and I have come to the conclusion that NAV sucks. PC-Cillin detected 96 viruses on my computer and NAV detected NOTHING. I ran a google search on NAV vs Mcafee (I've got not experience with McAfee) and most people said they like NAV better (that's just sad lol). What's your opinion? Personally I think that PC-Cillin is the best. I have also heard about AVG which is a free scanner and Panda. I haven't had any experience with those either. What's your opinion?

I use FixIt Utilities from VCOM and have used it since its release. I have been more than satisfied with it.

I am a strong supporter of FREE and I use AVG. I am also using the FREE version of Sygate Personal Firewall. I have no complaints with either, and feel very secure while online.

I just downloaded AVG. It says it detected 4 viruses. I wanted to see if PC-Cillin will detect them. I'm running both as I am typing. Smile

Yup me too. Always used both of these for the last 5yrs and they've always kept my pc safe. I did try Norton once for a change and hey ho, got a nasty virus. So installed AVG again to clean it.

Hmmm......AVG found 27 viruses....PC-Cillin found 0. Looks like I'm using AVG from now on, fellas! w00t!

Haha, got updated and ran the scan again. 14 more viruses. Looks like my opinion on PC-Cillin is wrong.

I was recently beta testing the latest PcCillin (2005) -- which has some cool features! However, I have also used the following for at least 30 days in the last three years:

Avast! (Free and personal favorite)
AVG
Panda Titanium and Platinum
NOD32
Symantec Corporate 8.1
Norton AV (Various Home User Flavors)
FPROT
AntiVir
EZ Armor Suite
Sophos AV
Kapersky

Currently running the latest NOD32 trial.....

I tend to like AV programs that scan POP traffic rather than try and integrate with email programs. I use a non-popular email client called "The Bat!" by Ritlabs.com and not every AV program supports it.......

I just McAfee just because it doesn't have a subscription for use like Norton. But I use online http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ just in case a virus has deactivated my AV software.

This whole anti virus software thing to me seems like a scam. They have their "white hat" people making viruses to keep them in business. Oh sure you have the wack jobs out there that are bored and create viruses and name them after their favorite stripper that won't give them a date. But I think those are far and few compaired to what Norton and McAfee put out themselves.

I've had a lot of trouble with Mcrappy destroyed a hard drive on my old laptop even totally annihilated the boot sector. Norton I've used a since 98 on at least one PC here. Its had some flakey versions for sure and givin me a ton of grief.

Kaspersky is my favorite running one. But I always install it so that its active scan is disabled.

Right now I just switched PC's and am using NIS2002 because thats what I had on it when I originally install XP on it after building it. I don't really like it but it seems to be less of a strain then NIS2005 which we run on the laptop right now. Which "seems" to be causing it to overheat so I'm going to try installing CPUIdle on it as soon as I can verify that it will work on the P4 2.4 lappy without issue. Hopefully that will resolve that issue. No doubt the issue existed before but cpu time must have been significantly less on the last version then it is on NIS2005 because the issue never happened before that update.

I just installed that AVG to see what's it's like. I'm sure home users will like it, it's visually pretty.

While I do have Mcrappy (I like that) installed. I don't have it active. I have no software auto loading on my system. I hate that! It slows it down too much. I don't have a firewall or anything. I have a very open system, and has been that way since March. If someone wants to hack my system be my guest. No information of value on it. This kinda reminds me .. maybe some day I should do a scandisk or defrag LOL

I ran this AVG and it didn't find anything. No viruses. I'm even the postmaster for my company and receive 1000's of Spam viruses a day and my system isn't infected. Matter of fact I can't remember the last time I had a virus that wasn't a false positive.

So anyway my question is .... just what are you doing to be infected? 41 viruses?!? on one computer? are you doing something on purpose? the only time I've seen people that infected is when they visit adult sites. Not implying anything here, maybe there is another way. This is a honest question Very Happy

I've always wondered WHY everyone I work with always seems to have viruses or other problems and I don't. Many of them have had actual computer training, while I've never been to a computer class for any type of training.

You think 41 viruses is a lot? My sister found over 1000 on her computer LOL!! I'm not sure how I got those viruses. I've had a few backdoors before. I'm not sure if some backdoors allow people to put even more viruses on your computer, but if they do, then that is probably one of the big reasons. If not, then I don't know. Probably some security problems in IE. I've been using FireFox more and more. Some day I probably won't use IE.

. It's all on my dad's Linux computers haha. He hates Windows. And believe me if Linux was compatitble with more programs and games, I would be more than happy to use it.

Not that you visit!!! at least I hope not!! But about 75% of the pc's I work on that are virus laden is because the had been on an adult site. Sometimes not by choice, they were hijacked into them.

Yep without a doubt newbies are the ones who are effected the most. But just checkout the news posted at NC regarding that Contact Us mod file that was infected. Any of us might have downloaded that and not even givin a thought to virus scanning the archive assuming it was just php scripts then ZAP! I'm usually pretty cautious with exe files but if I'm familar with the source I seldom scan downloaded script archives. I've disabled several common extensions on all my windows PC's with Script Defender from http://www.analogx.com. Which prevents those nasty pif and vbs extensions ect... from executing on their own.

AnalogX really knows his stuff. I've used some of his programs off and on for years. I used Pow! (pop up blocker) for a long time before the Google toolbar and Windows XP SP2 pop up blockers came along.

I'm very pleased with AVG, and the cost fits really well with my budget Wink

I've used a bunch and stick to the TrendMicro Internet Security Suite
I get nice popups saying someone tried to get in thru port X
Also it's nice that it sits between the net and your computer and scans all ports as you go.
That way i don't mind if i download something thru a P2P, check my pop mail or just surf around.

NAV sucks, and why do you need to make contact with their pop server to get your mail ? That's very suspecious to me.

F-prot and sophos are also good but way to expensive

Recently gone back to Avast! anti-virus as it's a tried and true favorite and has caught some things that AVG missed.....and even though the beta-testing has finished for PCCillin Internet Security Suite 2005 and I just got my 1 year free license/key, I might install it on the wife's laptop, but think I will be sticking with Avast! for now.....and being free, it fits my budget nicely too! *grin*

So, why have I used F-Prot all these years? It's been my experience that most virus checkers do a pretty good job at discovering them. Sometimes they work too good (ahem!). But, F-Prot is the only one I've used that actually gets rid of them every time. To me, that's the difference!

If you guys are confident your AV proggie works, test it.
