I hate the way that news submitted by others is put in italics? How do I edit them so that they're normal?

Well it depends on the theme in use. Open your theme.php and look for a line of code similar to this
Code:
$content .= ""._WRITES." <i>\"$thetext\"</i>$notes\n";
and remove ....

<i> and </i>
