Hmm.. user hit count

I am wondering if it would be possible to modify my user info block to look at the user ip address and/or user name and compare it to the list of tracked ip's/users and if it doesn't match then count it. If it does match then not. Basically what I am looking for is keeping track numerically unique users separately from total hits. I notice that our site has >130000 hits but there has not been more than 3-400 visitors from what I can see in the NSN IPTracker. I would like to see at a glance how many unique users have visited on any given day/month/year. I am new to php and am trying to figure it out but want to know if I am just wasting my time. Thanks.

If you already have NSN IP Tracker, why not just pull the data from that? Not sure - does it have a block?
