Will it be integrated into php nuke anytime soon, or does it need more testing to find if there are vulnerabilities in it? Has anyone used it yet? The countdown to gold release is out in 10 mins. as of now... |

We've been pretty much waiting for the Gold release. No one wants to tackle it while there are significant changes between RCs.
But now that its final, time to give it a whirl.

I hope there will be a good period of discussion and consideration before anyone starts coding the integration of PHPBB3 into *nuke. Probably not, but I hope so. From what I read , PHPBB3 has some new groups management features that look very interesting and useful. The whole Your Account and Groups areas are in my view the weakest part of all the *nukes, especially since we really need to use Groups to replace (eventually) the outmoded and awkward administrative system the lies behind Nuke. Plus, just pasting the Forums templates system on top of the Nukes themes system creates an ungodly mess of duplicative files.
In short I hope we can get 2.20 out the door and take some time to install some standalone PHPBB3 systems to run side by side with RN and then figure out what approach to integration makes the most sense. |

I just upgraded one of my sites to BB3....Man I have to tell you THAT IS BADASS!
It ROCKS.
We need to find a way to include it in RN and we need to find a way to make it still work by default....I would think even going as far as scrapping the whole NUKE user system and useing the bb3 system instead. It is that BADASS!

I agree dawg, it is badass and scrapping the nuke user system sounds like a good idea to me
I played with a release candidate not too long ago and it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to integrate the standalone phpbb3 with nuke(probably alot easier then hacking it into a module). I was playing with the idea of integrating it with a custom site and as I was working with the code I was finding bits of code i was using could replace some core functions in mainfile.php(is_user, is_admin, online, etc.). Of course it might break some 3rd party modules, but oh well, it is time to move forward. The main issue I see with having it as standalone is not being able to show nuke blocks without modifying it. |

phpBB3 does rock. Back when it was RC7 I experimented with it by
converting my nuke forum to phpBB3. My problem is that I don't know
how to build pages around it. I'm not a coder. Therefore, I depend on
CMS sites.
I don't think nuke is ready for the dumpster. Raven and his support
team has made RN rock. It has it's flaws but nuke is still the only CMS
that integrates a decent forum. I have worked with several other CMS.
Drupal is prob the best CMS but with a lame forum. Joomla doesn't even
integrate a forum and the component forums avail are not as good as phpBB.
I am happy with RN and I'm sure when they integrate phpBB3, nuke will
continue to be the best CMS/forum combination. |

I finished setting it up this morning. What a pleasure to work with. Easy To Admin....Easy to Skin....just a pure pleasure to work with....
I am sure as time goes the RN team will find a way to use this....I don;t speak for them but I know a good thing when I see it.
BBtoNuke got it done but it has several serious flaws to it's logic.
A combo of RN and phpbb3 would set the world on fire!

v3 is without a doubt one of the best systems out there now. For sure the best free system. I absolutely love everything externally that they have done. I do have a few issues with what they did internally. I wish they did somethings differently but to the average user they wont notice these.
As for Nuke issue, let me state as someone that has worked alot with it since the early betas, porting and getting nuke working with it is going to be difficult. It will require ALOT of recoding. The security and session handling alone makes the current bbnuke module completely worthless. Who ever tries to tackle this issue will have alot of work a head of them. I am not saying its impossible, just difficult.
Which brings me to what we (Nuke-Evolution) are doing. In the interest of our users and the honest evaluation of what it would take to port and modularize v3 we have decided to completely drop PHPNuke from the future road map after 2.1.x and move to a portal system based around phpbb v3 in the future. I have actually just finished writing the technical demo base that I have shown to the rest of our team that previews how the site will work and how we can bridge modules and blocks from Nuke to the new portal. |
