Hi Guys

I have searched all over for a little bit of help or advice and have found nothing of note so I'm hoping you will be my saviour.

It's a brand new hosting account, fresh MySQL database.
I have ftp'd all the files into public_html but when I try and run the installSQL.php I get redirected to a google page that says:

"Oops! This link appears to be broken"
"HTTP 404 - File not found."

I have been on to my host and they reckon it should be ok but they won't go into it any further.

Any you can give would be greatly appreciated as this is frazzling my noodle.

With the support of jakec I sort of had this nailed.

I encountered a slight problem and will have to reinstall.

Thanks for the help jakec and I'll update this thread as and when I've sorted it.

Right I got the site installed and working finally but now it would seem that a theme I was given to use doesn't work properly and now I have just a blank page.

Is there anyway to change the theme without doing it in the preferences in the admin panel?

Yes, changing it in your config table using phpMyAdmin

bilko, did you get the theme sorted too? Check for threads here regarding similar theme problems. Might be its old and still using the old sql_later.

Bilko, with regarads to the theme as Montego says it is very likely to be the $dbi issue discussed here. If you need a hand to look at it please feel free to give me a shout.

I think the theme I tried doesn't work with this version of RN as on closer inspection of the files there appears to be a few discrepancies.

I managed to recover it via PhpMyAdmin and set it back to a default theme.

Bilko, if you want to see if you can get your theme to work, do not miss this very important hint from jakec and myself:

If you do not want to use the theme any longer, then ignore. I just want to make sure you are aware that the fix might not be all that difficult.

Thanks Montego, I've had a search around and picked up a little.

Basically from what I can gather you have to change some values from $dbi to $db.....is that right?

Is that just in the theme or do I have to do that anywhere in my site config?

In mainfile.php you need to try and uncomment something.

For a quick fix, see this thread and the referenced FAQ:

For a more extensive discussion see:

I found these by using the search function in forums. It is not just a matter of changing $dbi to $db.

Bilko, the offer still stands. Wink

Best to try and fix it properly, rather than the quick fix.
