Site hacked - Index.php destroyed

My site was hacked early this morning. The hacker replaced the index.php file with an index.html file that said

So I put back the last index.php I had. Now I get the message "You can't access this file directly..."

How can I get the site back up, and how was the person able to hack me.

First if the jackass was able to replace files, he got in a little deaper than nuke and it's hard to tell what all he scewed with! You'll want contact your host about this.

In my opion I'd just load all the files again from your back ups.
